AUGUST 18TH, 2012 - 7:18 AM
His eyes opened much quicker than usual. Today was an important day. His fourteenth birthday. Tyler Gulick sat up and yawned. He didn't sleep for very long, but he slept deeply and well, nonetheless.
Tyler went to grab some pancakes to pop in the microwave, only to make a somewhat startling discovery. "This... This isn't my bedroom. This isn't my house!" Tyler began surveying his surroundings. He was in a dusty field, with a single, overly-generic bed which he had awoken in. Though Tyler had never been in this field before, something was strangely familiar about it.
"Excellent, you are conscious." Tyler turned to the source of the voice, and was immediately met with a familiar sight-- a large, white, disembodied hand floated before him. The Master Hand.
Tyler tumbled back onto the bed in surprise, and a small amount of fear. "This has got to be a dream." He pinched himself to try and awake, to no avail. "P-please don't hurt me!"
"I have no intention of harming you, Tyler Gulick. I assure you that I am not nearly as bad as those video games of yours make me seem." The hand said, its voice far more kind and comforting than Tyler anticipated.
"Th-then why am I here?" Tyler gulped, still not entirely trusting of the Master Hand, nor fully trusting that this was really happening. The hand merely chuckled and snapped his fingers, giving Tyler a split second of clarity.
For less than a moment, Tyler saw all of existence. It's real. Mario is real. Pokemon is real. Sonic is real. Animal Crossing is real. Batman is real. Spongebob is real. Ed Edd and Eddy are real. Jimmy Neutron is real. MySims is real. Everything is real. Tyler gasped at his newfound knowledge.
This vision was quickly followed by another. An organization, dedicated to protecting the multiverse from any that threaten to destroy it, or disrupt its natural flow. Members who get to spend their greatly elongated lives adventuring and exploring the universes all they want-- making many friends and enemies along the way. They are known as the Multidimensional Special Agency, or MDSA for short.
Then the vision went away. Tyler stared up at the Master Hand, who once again chuckled softly. "What do you think, Tyler? We do fine work across the dimensions, and we would be honored if you would join us."
"B-but why me, though? Of all the people you could choose, why me? What makes me so special?" Tyler asked, legitimately confused.
"For starters, you usually have a far better attitude than that. Second, we choose our agents based off specific qualities. Yours, would be tactical and strategic planning. And third... To be honest, you may think you were born in the quote unquote, 'real world,' but..."
Tyler perked up, interested. "But what?"
"I suppose your mother never told you that Mario and Luigi are your cousins?" The hand chuckled yet again. Tyler just stared in awe. "If you choose to join us, we can grant you certain immunities to the dangers you'll no doubt face... Your durability, agility, stamina, and strength will be buffed, and you will receive a set of Dimension Keys, which will be your ticket to hopping between dimensions. You shall be given other equipment and training over time, as well. If you refuse... Then you'll forget this ever happened, and return to your life. But your cousins will be very disappointed."
Tyler began to think it through. Meeting his heroes would be great, especially since it turns out he's related to some! But the danger would... No. It's worth the risk, Tyler thought.
He nodded happily. "Count me in."
"I'm glad to hear it. To be honest, I already knew you would say yes." The Master Hand stated with a light chuckle. "You may or may not have some endeavors with time travel in the future... And the past." Tyler couldn't help but chuckle as well. "For now, you should enjoy your birthday. Happy 14th, Tyler. See you soon. Very, very soon."
The hand vanished, and the area around Tyler faded into his bedroom. He took notice of a golden keychain on his nightstand. This is going to be fun, he thought.
